Cowbell came about a year ago when Ms. Dehner was reading about the cows coming to KC in the Kansas City Star. She heard about the other shows in other cities and always thought that painting a cow would be such a unique experience. She had done an illustration about 8 months before that entitled Cowbell which was a visual pun. I thought to myself how perfect would that be translated onto a cow? So a year later . . . here she is. During the 111 hours of painting, the artists mother, Cowbells biggest fan, developed breast cancer and has been undergoing several surgeries. In her mothers honor, and for all people that have been touched by this disease, Ms. Dehner painted a small pink ribbon on the front hoof. The front hoof symbolizes hope that we keep stepping forward to find a cure for breast cancer.
