Moosouri Skies features mosaic relieved birds that are attached to a blue-sky background of the cow body. There are 7 total birds on the cow with one 3-dimensional bird perched in a wire nest by the horns. The legs are also decorated in mosaic glass the same sky color. This provided a great learning process for the testing of a new mosaic technique for the artist as well as learning about varnishes and glues that were appropriate for this piece. It took many, many hours as mosaics usually do but there is always great fun along the way," said Caryn Brown, artist.
The artist went on to say, This is a pretty basic concept so I think my main goal was to introduce mosaic art to those who may not be that familiar with it. Many people know of mosaics but not many know that you can create detailed and depicted images rather than just broken tile on an existing object. I liked the bird idea for the fact that Missouri hosts some beautiful and colorful birds so it helped personalize the cow to this area. I wanted to do something unique that extended beyond the usual painting directly on the cow and I think that was accomplished. However, I do wish Id had a little more time to have more birds adorning the cow
I guess I still suffer from a bit of cow separation anxiety.
