The Jazz Cow uses whimsical colors and patterns to three jazz instruments. The artists chose the instruments to correspond to the anatomy of the cow such as the placement of the piano keyboard relating to the ribs and the clarinet to the spine. The blue musical notes flying off the sheet music suggests the freedom and improvisation that jazz embodies.
Artist Jan Gaumnitz sculptures and paintings are exhibited nationally in galleries and juried shows where her work has received numerous awards. Her work in Lawrence can be seen at Roys Gallery, Fields Gallery and the Phoenix Gallery. Artist Janet Satz is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts/Kansas Arts Commission Artist Fellowship and has received numerous exhibition awards for her paintings. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is included in numerous public collections including The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and the Housatonic Museum of Art, CT.
