Nobody on the planet eats more butter than New Zealanders, who consume 26 pounds per person each year. In the United States, however, butter consumption is spread pretty thin - only 4 pounds per year.

Title: 2001: A Space Cowboy Oddity
Location: Prairie Village Shops, KS
Artist: Roger Garner "RAD"
Sponsor: Prairie Village Shops

2001 A Space Cowboy Oddity features an astronaut floating over the moon. According to the artist, the darkness of space, brilliant stars and nearly everything else in the painting were created using black and white Rust-Oleum outdoor enamel paint. 2001 A Space Cowboy Oddity is based on several influences. The astronaut idea is from early remembrances of space walks taken by Gemini astronauts. Astronaut James McDivitt, tethered to his craft, floating in space, on the cover of Life Magazine, is an image that has stayed with me all of my life.

Roger Garner writes and directs short films and promotions for a local television studio and is a self-taught artist. “I’m the most inspired by surrealism and cartoons. Dali and Disney . . . whoah! My goal is to keep painting and to use all of my artistic skills and energy to produce memorable short films, commercials, music videos and animated feature films . . . with a little help from my animating friends.”

This cow was sold in the internet auction hosted by Amazon.com that began on October 5, 2001, immediately following the close of the live auction and ran for approximately three weeks.
