Title: Starry Starry Cow
Location: Country Club Plaza
Artist: Jerry Winkler
Sponsor: The Country Club Plaza

"Starry Starry Cow" is an attempt to capture Van Gogh’s style and design. The artist used car bondo to build up texture and used his fingers to add the motion of the painting strokes. “I tried to make the reproduction as authentic as I could. I wanted to make an image that would make people remember the experience of seeing this cow when they see a picture of Van Gogh’s Starry Night,” said the artist. “I also cut off half of the left ear to give an extra interest. Some people will know why the ear is gone and tell others and some will wonder why and ask. I though this might initiate more discussions about Van Gogh’s life,” said artist Jerry Winkler.

This cow was sold in the live auction conducted by Sotheby's on October 5, 2001 at Starlight Theatre.
