Title: The Read Mooore Cow
Location: Downtown KC, MO - Barney Allis area
Artist: Jennifer Schmitz and J.A. Rogers Academy Staff and Students
Sponsor: State Street Bank and Trust Company

In her non-bovine pieces, Artist Jennifer Schitz works with textiles such as hand-dyed fabrics. Involving students at J.A. Rodgers Academy, where she is an art teacher, she utilized photographs to create The Read Mooore Cow. This well read cow is a collage composed of images which reference the 25 books the students read during the school year. According to the artist, “The idea for “Bessie Read Mooore Cow” was born out of the current push for literacy in both our school and the Kansas City, Missouri School District.” She has wire-rim reading glasses to help her better see the ceramic book that is under her nose and a library card in her back pocket. She is probably the smartest cow you’ll ever meet!

This cow was sold in the internet auction hosted by Amazon.com that began on October 5, 2001, immediately following the close of the live auction and ran for approximately three weeks.
