Eighteenth and Bovine is the artists tribute to the Kansas City Jazz history of the 1920s and 30s centered around the 18th and Vine district. She has an Art Deco feel and a deep blue soul. I researched the graphic design of the jazz age to design my cow, and learned about K.C.s jazz legends, said the artist. One side shows a tenor saxophone and a piano keyboard, two of the key jazz instruments. The other side has the names of six of the regions jazz greats. The horns of this jazz cow have been replaced by trumpet-shaped kazoos, called jazz horns. I also did some sculptural modification of the cows eyes to give her a cool expression.
I am glad that this city is starting to appreciate its unique musical history, and I wanted to build on that. If this project helps raise awareness of some of this citys riches, it will be a success, beams artist Sharon Reeber!
