Title: Eighteenth and Bovine
Location: Kansas City, Kansas Courthouse
Artist: Sharon Reeber
Sponsor: CowParade Holdings Corporation, Inc.

“Eighteenth and Bovine” is the artist’s tribute to the Kansas City Jazz history of the 1920’s and 30’s centered around the 18th and Vine district. She has an Art Deco feel and a deep blue soul. “I researched the graphic design of the jazz age to design my cow, and learned about K.C.’s jazz legends,” said the artist. One side shows a tenor saxophone and a piano keyboard, two of the key jazz instruments. The other side has the names of six of the region’s jazz greats. The horns of this jazz cow have been replaced by trumpet-shaped kazoos, called “jazz horns. I also did some sculptural modification of the cow’s eyes to give her a “cool” expression.”

“I am glad that this city is starting to appreciate its unique musical history, and I wanted to build on that. If this project helps raise awareness of some of this city’s riches, it will be a success,” beams artist Sharon Reeber!
