Makaria, taken from a late Fifth Century Greek vase and dressed as a maenad with a dappled fawn skin over her chifton, is transparently painted on this reclining cow’s backside. An even more transparent female is nestled into the cow’s underside. According to the artist, Susi Lulaki, “Two things that I think are very beautiful, Fifth Century Greek vase paintings and illustrated herbals, are on my cow. My art expresses joy in nature; my love of plants, of the literature of plants, of medical uses of plants.”				This cow was sold in the live auction conducted by Sotheby's on October 5, 2001 at Starlight Theatre.
