"Classicow Greek Goddess" is layered with inkjet prints from the ancient Greek illustrative tradition of Dioscorides manuscript herbals. Makaria, taken from a late Fifth Century Greek vase and dressed as a maenad with a dappled fawn skin over her chifton, is transparently painted on this reclining cows backside. An even more transparent female is nestled into the cows underside.
According to the artist, Susi Lulaki, Two things that I think are very beautiful, Fifth Century Greek vase paintings and illustrated herbals, are on my cow. My art expresses joy in nature; my love of plants, of the literature of plants, of medical uses of plants.
