Title: Brown Dotted Swiss
Location: Country Club Plaza
Artist: Marilyn York
Sponsor: The Country Club Plaza

This heifer may be lazy, but she sure is pretty. Brown Dotted Swiss is an ode to the Brown Swiss cow, one of the oldest breeds in existence. Artist Marilyn York said, “I thought this fine cow should be dressed in brown dotted swiss, a fabric popular in my childhood.” The lovely colors found on the Brown Swiss are expertly duplicated by the artist.

This year one of Ms. York’s paintings was selected by the Association of Community Arts Agencies of Kansas as one of 26 paintings to tour the State during 2000-2001. This summer a painting was selected by juror, Terri Sultan, Curator of Contemporary Art at Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC to be shown in the Kansas City Artists Coalition 18th Annual Competition. She is presently preparing for a one-woman show opening January 4, 2001 at the Merriam Community Center Art Gallery.

This cow was sold in the internet auction hosted by Amazon.com that began on October 5, 2001, immediately following the close of the live auction and ran for approximately three weeks.
