Title: Sock Monkey Cow
Location: Crown Center
Artist: Sandra Spencer
Sponsor: Crown Center

This cow is based on the nostalgic image of the stuffed Sock Monkey toy that dates back to the early 1900s. The texture of the cow mimics the knitted surface of the Sock Monkey. The fez on the cow is a traditional addition that is found on many of the Sock Monkeys made over the years. The brown, cream and red colors of the cow were created by rubbing the acrylic paint into the textured surface. Two coats of UV polyurethane protect the cow from the elements. The vivid texture of this expertly
crafted work was made with acrylic modeling paste.

Sandra Walter Spencer has used the image of the Sock Monkey in her own work for many years and has worked as a designer at Hallmark Cards for over ten years.

This cow was sold in the internet auction hosted by Amazon.com that began on October 5, 2001, immediately following the close of the live auction and ran for approximately three weeks.
